[Everything doTERRA] Re: RA and Hypothyroidism

Hi Kathryn-
I add one drop of each in 1 T FCO and put it in a dropper bottle (you could also use a roller bottle but my clients seem to prefer the dropper bottle). This is always what I start with and sometimes I will need to "tweak" as needed if the client doesn't get the relief hoped for but most people respond really well. If I do tweak I will usually add another drop of wintergreen (unless they feel like it was warm enough to begin with) and then I do one more drop of lemongrass and cypress. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the advise.  I do have an excellent functional medicine physician I can refer her to.

Would you be willing to share the recipe for your painful joint rub?

Thanks!

Hi there!
First there is so much that can (and should) be considered utilizing nutrition. RA 95% of the time is autoimmune and related to "leaky gut syndrome" which means that the gut has become permeable to damage from foods like gluten, sugar, dairy and more and therefore food particles leak through into the blood stream and settle quite often in the joints. The immune system recognizes that these are foreign and shouldn't be there and begins the attack (inflammation, heat, pain). Without addressing the gut it will be hard to get relief since the immune system will be on constant attack (and all medications do is suppress the immune system - not good for over all health). I would strongly advise that your friend locate a functional medicine physician or functional nutritionist to help then with the creation of an elimination diet. The LLV is a good place to start especially the xEO Mega to help with inflammation.
That being said, there are oils that can be utilized to ease symptoms while working on diet. I have created a "painful joint"rub that can be used on joints and muscles that I give to my patients (I'm a dietitian and specialize in functional nutrition and autoimmune conditions) - I like to mix wintergreen, lemongrass, frankincense, eucalyptus and cypress in FCO.

As far as the hypothyroidism - ideally she needs to find out why she is hypothyroid because quite often when someone has one autoimmune condition they are prone to more and autoimmune hypothyroidism is called Hashimoto's Disease and basically what can happen is that if the thyroid is stimulated (through meds, herbs or oils) it can cause the body to attack the thyroid even more leading to her feeling worse. That being said, if it is not autoimmune (there are tests that can be done to verify) or if she would like to just try some support from oils -commonly used combos are lemongrass/myrrh and balance/geranium - rotating week to week with the combos.

I hope that helps some!

I'm helping a friend new to oils with health issues related to RA and Hypothyroidism.  Her issues include muscle stiffness, pain, inflammation, and fatigure (among others).  If anyone has a protocol to recommend that addresses these combined health concerns, I would love to see it!  Thanks!
