Actully the new OnGuard + capsul has OnGuard, Oregino, Mellisa, & Black Pepper.
Both Mellisa and Black Pepper are anti-viral. Though the capsul is so knew its hard to know if its the best way to go as its untried on Shingles.
First with age the skins viscosity is generally week so we need to treat it very gentil like a baby's skin. Shingles is a virus that travel along the nerves to erupt on the skin. A cream on Orgainc Vergin Cocnut oil is very soothing. A bit of Sandlewood & Helichrysum in it may help heal and sooth the wound. Sandalwood is gentil on broken tissue and our best against inflammation and Heluchrism incurages tissue regrowth and dulls pain. Peppermint is excellent for pain and heeling the nerves.
Maybe dilute peppermint and run up his spine. Give a pill of Black Pepper and Mellisa. With Balance on his feet to start balancing his body out so he can heal.
Of course take note of what is working. I believe that is where I would start if he where my grandfather from what you said.
A scan and possibly an AromaTouch as well as muscle testing could help in processing.
