I have had very good results using lavender with a carrier oil rubbed on my chest for calming anxiety.  I also alternate with using Serenity blend (my most favorite of all oils) and a carrier oil.  I've found using a carrier oil helps the oils last longer on the skin.  I have also been using them on the bottom of my feet at bedtime for a more deep and restful sleep.  Grounding blend is another good one to use.

Both of those calm me very quickly.  I use them on a regular basis, so not sure if they'd calm a full blown attack, but starting to use them along with the valium would definitely help and then she could maybe slowly reduce the use of valium and see how she does.

I use them throughout the day on my wrists and behind my ears rubbing down the sides of my neck as needed to help stress etc while at work.

hope this helps!
