My teenage daughter had horrible redness and swelling in and around her eyes for several weeks earlier this year. Her eyes would swell almost shut and the school kept trying to send her home on the days she actually attended. The skin was itchy and flaky, too. None of the oil options we tried helped so we finally went to the doctor. She wasn't sure so offered eye drop antibiotics and oral antibiotics. We declined the hydrocortisone cream. No effect. Back to the Dr and saw a different one at the clinic, who pulled in the first we saw and another in the hall. They were all baffled. Finally recommended we see an opthamologist, and he fit us in on our way home. The first thing he said was to stop using the eye drops and medications. :) He said it was clearly an allergic reaction--which is what we all thought, but it was so severe and long-lasting and the lemon-lavender-peppermint combo was having little effect so we were grasping for a solution. He recommended a gentle, natural lotion for the irritated skin, so I gave her my doTERRA hand lotion and hdClear moisturizer. You can imagine how a teenage girl feels with her face puffy, vision blurred, itchy skin, no makeup for weeks. We finally stopped using the face washcloth that was supposed to be natural and gentle and she had been using in place of everything else trying to clear it up and she started to get better. She washed her face with it a week later and immediately flared up, so we have removed those altogether and she has been clear ever since.
