I was told it develops (usually) due to constipation over time and needing to strain to have a bowel movement. The straining causes the pouches that catch food that can then become infected. I read up about it many times before having surgery. My daughter also had the surgery and was told that in the US they recommend surgery after two bouts of diverticulitis. She said she was never constipated and she has also never done a cleanse. Personally, I would take the antibiotics because I know how bad the pain can be and if it ruptures you are talking major issues. I would not, however, blame it on the oils.
