[Everything doTERRA] Re: Sugar high and behavior

Hi Suzanne,
My son has major reactions to food dyes, petroleum based preservatives, and now we are testing salicylates.  He recently had an exposure to TBHQ (in Gourmet Jalepeno Cheddar popcorn) and dealt with the reaction for 9 days!  We have avoided all labeled preservatives and additives that we knew were harmful for years and this exposure was accidental.  It rejuvenated our focus on "clean foods" and led us to the Feingold Diet.  I have no doubts that he, my son, would be diagnosed with ADHD if it weren't for the diet modifications we are diligent about.  When exposed to food dyes, TBHQ, BHA, or BHT, he becomes very angry, then sad, then mad, then restless, fidgety, unable to focus, outbursts at seemingly benign things, and sad again.  (I should also mention he gets asthma like symptoms at night when he eats these things, and skin issues as well.)  Its really hard to watch and hard to deal with, but we know, and HE KNOWS, that "foods" that contain these petroleum based preservatives and additives cause him behavioral and physical health related issues (eczema, rashes, and asthma like symptoms).  He doesn't like to feel like that - for him it feels like the whole world is against him at times during the reaction period.  He's normally a joyful and eager 9 year old boy!
When he had a reaction last month, (first one in years!) I gave him epsom salt baths and added one drop of Helichrysum and one drop of Rosemary to help his system detox the reaction.  He loved the baths and seemed to really calm him down.  The epsom salts themselves are supposed to be detoxifying and that is also why I chose those two oils.  I'm sure there are others who can give recommendations as to detoxing the chemicals out that his body does not tolerate, I just felt these two were calling to me to help mitigate the reaction.
It sounds like his mom is already careful about what he eats, perhaps she already knows about the Feingold Diet?  We've been able to get off allergy and asthma meds using diet and the oils.
Best wishes!
Melissa
(oh - and my son LOVES using In Tune then a roller bottle of Frankincense and Cypress layered on his feet at night)

My 13 year old grandson has ADHD and anger issues. His mom is very careful with what he can eat, but occasionally he sneaks candy or something with Red dye 40 (I think) in it while he is at school or church events. He becomes very aggitated and agressive as virtually out of control for several hours after and sometimes the bad behavior lasts a day or two. Is there anything they can do to calm him down? We have tried Serenity and Citrus Bliss, but they really haven't helped much. Even suggestions outside of oils would be welcome. Thanks, Sz
