As far as helping the husband to understand the effectiveness of the
oils: I would suggest that he read studies on pubmed.gov, the
government sponsored website for scientific studies, and search for
essential oils. There is some good science behind the oils. Also,
the way that pharmaceuticals are typically created is that the
medicinal properties in nature (plants) are identified and then
replicated in a cheaper way so that the pharmaceutical companies can
make a profit. But those chemicals are alien to our bodies, and so
you have undesirable side effects. Also, the overuse of antibiotics
is a real problem, leading to "superbugs" that do not respond to
medication -- but they do respond to essential oils. I would try to
put his mind at ease, letting him know that medication has its proper
role, but essential oils are a great first line of defense.
