Help, please? My sweet mother-in-law is 86. Mom is almost 80, and dad will be 81 this month. Dad is losing it quickly, with dementia and some pretty weird delusions. Mom is taking care of him, along with helping a couple of other older ladies, one of whom is completely lost with probable alzheimers.
I know it's been proven that the caretakers go downhill faster than the patients. My folks are on the East Coast, and I am 2500 miles away, with no other siblings any closer to them.
I guess what I'm asking is, is there any proven help for keeping dementia/alzheimers at bay? I know some say the LLV, but that's a lot of caps to swallow every day. I do it, and feel the great effects, but am not sure if I can get my moms to afford them or take them. Any other protocols?
I plan to get my mom and dad here this coming Summer, but am thinking it may need to be sooner.
Guess I need to get into some kind of Geriatric care learning program. This is so very hard. Never thought it could be this way.
Please, if any of you have experience with aging folks and how to help them without all the drugs with crazy side effects, I am pleading for your comments and help.
Thank you all once again!
Carly
