Dr. Susan Lawton has clearly stated in many of our oil audio files that grapefruit oil is totally safe and does not interact with any medications.

My opinion is that if your practitioner said specifically to stay away from grapefruit oil, then you should probably do it. The general thought has been that the oil has different properties then the juice, and therefor doesn't have the same interaction with Coumadin. However, there may not be enough research at this time to know one way or the other. Have you checked PubMed for information one way or the other? You could also ask your practitioner for more information so that you can make a fully informed decision.

My nurse practitioner has instructed me not to take any essential oils that contain grapefruit because of the interaction with my medications, especially coumadin. I can use any topically but be careful regarding the internal usage. My doterra representative has stated that the grapefruit comes from the rind and I should not have any issues. Anyone else having to watch the essential oils because of medication reactions?
