yes, anal glands can cause this.  perhaps the private area being swollen

is from the rubbing on the rug. there is another common cause for swelling

but if you have owned female dogs that have not been spayed you would

know what that is.  hope you can find relief for your girl. is there another vet

not to far away that you could consult?

  My dog has been scooting on the rug all night  I know they do that when their  Amal glands needs to be expressed  when I checked her private parts it was not  normal looking . It definitely looked protruded as if it were swollen. My vet is  not open on Saturday.  Can I use diluted lavender right in her private parts to  give her relief ? I wonder if she feels like we dowhen we get a yeast infection  in that area.
