[Everything doTERRA] Re: essential oils for dog's ears

Ms. Judy,
I'm a noobie to this group so not sure what I'm allowed to say or reference but I'll try to answer your question.
Essential oils should never be poured in the ear canal of either human or animal. Most of the time, ear infections in dogs are caused by dietary issues. You may want to consider having your pet allergy tested at your vets to determine exactly what your pet is allergic to. We did this with ours and it helped immensely! Between the 2 of them, they are allergic to chicken, turkey, pork, beef and lamb. We then consulted with a holistic vet regarding their diet and found a Grain free food with Bison and Sweet Potato and another with Venison and Sweet Potato. They've been eating small amounts (we add veggies/fruits) for the past 6 yrs and our Beagle (with hound dog ears) is the only one that from time-to-time will have a slight flare-up due to seasonal allergies of certain pollens, over which we have no control. In that case, I have a mixture of 2 teasp FCO with 10 drops Lavender that I wipe her ears out with, using a drop or 2 on a cotton ball. You can also use Geranium, Frankincense or Basil. Do NOT use any oil or blend containing Wintergreen, Oregano or Melaleuca (tea tree oil), Birch or Thyme as these are toxic to pets.

Hi:

Does anyone have any success with using specific essential oils for a dog's ears-? chronic infections , chronic sores.

Among various medications, two over the counter dog ear drops contain: infused mullein oil, witch hazel,, essential oils of calendula and rosemary. The other product has: aloe vera with infused oils of myrrh, rosemary and calendula and cinnamon leaf oil.   I have thought of using coconut oil and adding some essential oils like the rosemary.  Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed by both the dog and  me.
