Re: [Everything doTERRA] Oils for yoga

this question was just asked a few weeks ago.  This was my response.

i apply balance to my feet. it helps emotionally balancing/clearing my mind as well as physical balancing. i think diffusing balance during yoga is brilliant. balance is my #1 most fav oil.

my old yoga studio used to put citrus bliss on the back of our necks in shavasana (sp?) when you are laying down on your back. she'd put it on the occipotal part on the back of our necks and hold the pressure point we her fingers at the base of the skull. she'd also push down on our shoulders gently or put a hand at the base of our collar bones. not all instructors feel comfortable touching their students. while i don't enjoy being touched, during yoga, i felt comfortable. having oils applied to me during meditation was an experience i learned to enjoy very much! i don't care for the smell of citrus bliss alone but on my skin it changes to something very nice. lavender, serenity, mood oils or other citrus oils would be appropriate for this use.

before starting a yoga practice, i put frankincense on any of my problem areas (sore, tight, injured areas) this helps relieve the inflammation/pain for me and helps w my flexibility. (joan, i'd apply frankincense to your knee. perhaps deep blue, aromatouch or lemongrass, but def frankincense. start slow when reincorporating yoga into your life)

i clean my mat with a spray mixed w 2-3 drops melaleuca, 2-3 drops of lemon and 4 oz water. if you use soap, mats usually get slippery in my experience. i enjoy using this. i scrub it with a paper towel after spritzing.

for hot yoga, having a 4 oz spray bottle of water w 10 drops or less peppermint is very refreshing. i spray to my face and neck. it's not so strong that it will burn your eyes.

i always put on guard on my feet a few hours before going to yoga. i'm kind of a cootie-phobe and walking barefoot around other dirty feet grosses me out. i tend not to get sick as often when i use on guard and since doing this, i have not had a wart or fungus picked up on my feet either.

i don't enjoy drinking citrus oils in my water but many people do during yoga and seem to enjoy it.

i've started massaging myrrh into my feet after a practice. not sure why, i just felt impressed to. it's a grounding and maternal oil. perhaps bc i'm pregnant, i enjoy it? i can't explain how it makes me feel but it's very nice. i'd say incorporate oils you feel impressed to add to your practice or muscle test. there is usually a reason i discover later that i was drawn to that oil. perhaps it had to do with the intention i set for my practice that day or something i needed help on.

i don't always do all of these things at once--that would be quite a bit of oil, but see what appeals to you.

adding oils to my practice has helped so much! yoga is amazing! oils are amazing! together? pretty much awesome :) hope this was helpful.  Emily

I have a brand new IPC who is a yoga instructor and wanted to know what oils would be go to use in her classes. The first that came to mind were Balance, Serenity, Frankincense and Lime.

What oils do y'all use and why?

Thanks!
