[Everything doTERRA] allergies to eo and coconut oil clarification?

many of you have said 'you can not be allergic to an eo bc there are no proteins' however i've also seen the same people say that it is common for people to be allergic to coconut oil which i assume also has no proteins.  can someone explain this to me pls?  not trying to start an argument but i really dont believe its impossible to be allergic to an eo and that all reactions are detoxing.  i'd love reference to an article/dr/authority on this subject rather than opinions and experiences.  ii did read the article on 'detox reactions' by dr papas.
