[Everything doTERRA] Question about "blending" vs "layering"-brokenfoot....

This is from an email I rec'd this am:

broke my foot – I made a recipe from The Essential Life book in a roller bottle of helichrysum, frankincense, lemongrass, wintergreen & white fi.  Have been rolling it over the break & the bruises.  I've also been using Purify & OnGuard on the bottom of my feet to make the boot (which I have to wear for 6 weeks) more comfortable & smell good.  After a long day at work, the oils just make my foot feel better!

As I was reading this, I wondered about the combination she's mixed together.  I'm sure they're great oils for her foot but I'm reminded of Pat's comment somewhere on here talking about the benefit of layering vs blending, if you don't understand "blending".

It's not BAD to blend, correct?  What IS the reason for not blending if you don't have some knowledge in blending to know how to do it correctly?  Is the outcome just not as beneficial as you might get from layering if you combined oils that weren't such a good mixture?
