[Everything doTERRA] Re: Weightloss for dogs

Years ago I was given a standard poodle by some people who no longer wanted him and he was terribly overweight. The simplest thing to do, but in a smaller way for your little one, is to reduce the amount of food they eat. Dogs need lots of water but can easily get by on less food than they think they need!!! My pups would eat all day and all the treats if I let them. And, free feeding probably isn't a good idea because most people just refill the bowl when it's empty. My 11 pound mini poodle gets 2/3 of a cup of food per day (1/3 cup per meal). Now, we feed a high quality food with no fillers, etc. and those kinds of foods don't require the dog to be fed as much.

When I got the standard poodle, I only fed him a very little each day and he trimmed right down within a month. He was probably 6 years old at the time. Your dog is older and smaller, but feeding less is the simplest option. You might consider changing his food if you're not feeing a "senior" formula, or a high quality food.
