My two cents since I've taken a daily probiotic for years and every doctor has a favorite so I've tried tons of them (I was passed around to specialists like a bowl of M&Ms for about 15 years). I prefer PB Assist. I feel better when I take it. Now keeping in mind all those other brands I've consumed, PB is the only one where I don't have IBS. It is also the only one that if I take daily and have a holiday lapse from my diet that I don't have a huge candida bloom and have to start from square one. I owned a successful retail business for about eight years (Quilt and crafts store for the curious). One thing I learned very quickly is that there are set basic costs for products that cannot be deviated from without a loss of quality. For example with fabric they start the printing with something called greige goods and gradually tweak it until it is perfect. Once it hits a point where it is good and just needs minor adjustments they switch it to 2nd quality goods. When it is perfect they switch it to first quality goods. First quality goes to the quilt shops. The other stuff all gets sold to someone, usually chain stores and the like. It means that it might look the same but it isn't. When you run your hand on the fabrics you can tell just be the feel what the highest quality it. One of my friends who is an award winning professional long arm quilter loves to share the store about a lady who brought her a quilt top to quilt and bragged about how she got all the fabric on sale and made the quilt top for $30. It was loaded on to the machine and when she started machine quilting it the quilt started disintegrate. All products are the same way. There is a margin that is there that so that some companies willing to take less profit can sell it cheaper but when it comes down to it that margin isn't significant enough to account for huge dollars. The only way to account for it is quality. So with this in mind for a probiotic it would have me question the quality of the contents, if they were still viable and the ability for the capsule to say intact till it hit the GI tract. All of that would explain the cost and the results I get from taking PB Assist vs other brands. I should add that this is the exact reason I chose doTERRA over another brand, because the cost difference between their frankincense was so dramatic it was a tell for me.
But don't get me wrong, feel free to use what is right for you and your budget. I'm just sharing my opinion in case others were wondering how it might be possible for such a dramatic price difference.

I've been doing research comparing probiotic brands recently. Namely, New Chapter All Flora, Doterra's PB Assist, and BioKult. I have read from a source I trust that a good probiotic should contain as many different species of bacteria as possible, and that it should have at least 8 billion bacterial cells per GRAM (might require some math on your part).

New Chapter has 10 species of bacteria. It claims that two capsules contain 8 billion cells AT THE TIME OF MANUFACTURE. Who knows how long they actually stay alive. Capsules are taken on an empty stomach. They have no time-release technology, so I'm sure it's highly possible that some of the beneficial bacteria gets killed by stomach acid, etc.  Cost: approx. $35 for 120 capsules.

PB Assist has 6 species of bacteria. One capsule contains 5 billion cells. They have the time-release technology which means there is a greater possibility that bacteria will go where it needs to go. Capsules are taken with food. Cost: approx. $34 for only 30 capsules. (that's $160 for 120 capsules!!)

BioKult contains 14 species of bacteria. One capsule has 2 billion cells. It has 10 billion per GRAM. BioKult claims that due to their technology, the bacteria are protected from the stomach acid and are able to colonize the full gastro-intestinal tract. Capsules are taken with food, and are also able to be pulled apart and emptied, which would benefit someone who struggles with swallowing pills. Cost: approx. $42 for 120 capsules.

My personal conclusion on these three brands:

New Chapter- GOOD

PB Assist - BETTER   (you are getting your "points" from DoTerra and staying loyal to your business)

BioKult - BEST    (MUCH more cost effective than PB Assist)

Hope this helps someone.

My new dr wants me to take a probiotic three times a day. Most things I have read about PB Assist state you should only take it 10 days a month. Is this correct? And what makes it so much better than another brand of probiotic? Thanks for your help!
