We live in central AZ, where it seems the desert recluse spider (close cousin to the famous brown recluse) rules the territory. Since I work outside most of the time, I have been bitten at least a half dozen times by these nasty little creatures. My first time was scary. A yellowish blister appeared on my foot, and before i finally figured out what it was that bit me, the lesion had grown to the size of a dime and about as deep. The recluse bite is nothing to trifle with. The venom will not stop on it's own. It has been known to burrow holes down to the bone, and amputations are not out of the realm of possibility. Black Widows? Puh-LEEZ!
The wound from this spider bite is distinctive, despite the fact that you probably never will know WHEN you got it. A little raised red circle will appear on your skin. Within an hour or so, in the center of it will form another raised, hard, liquid filled "blister". If left alone, this wound will grow and begin to itch and sting. It will keep on going and never stop until you do something about it.
Fortunately, treating with DoTerra oils is simple!
I apply one drop each of Melaleuca, Purify, On Guard, Frankincense, and either Basil or Oregano on a small gauze pad and tape it against the wound. I change it out twice a day, keeping this solution against my skin for as long as it takes. If caught right away, usually only a day or two. If you've had it for a while, and the wound is coin sized, like my first one was, you'll have to keep it on longer and probably add the oils to a charcoal/flax seed meal poultice to draw out the venom. Be persistent, be patient! It does work.
