Re: [Everything doTERRA] Frustrated and Confused: Diabetes Workshop TONIGHT!!!

DoTerra is just being cautious in order to protect us as IPC's. One of the first things I do when presenting, regardless of the subject, is that oils do not heal.

My Statement: "I would like to reiterate to those here tonight that essential oils do not heal anything. However when you give your body the correct tools it can heal from within. I will be offering suggestions and protocols for a myriad of physical and emotional needs. It will be your choice how to handle it. You never disregard your primary care physician or stop taking any of your meds without their specific instructions."

And then I begin my teaching.

I have attended many workshops and events with specific illnesses as a base for the event. I personally think you are fine with what you are doing as long as you offer a statement at the beginning.

I emailed corporate regarding my diabetes workshop TONIGHT asking if it was ok to do the workshop. They said fine, in fact, they encouraged it.

I get an email stating I cannot talk about Diabetes AND Doterra. It has to be separated. WTH?!

Hopefully I can offer you some advice and knowledge about dōTERRA policies that would impact an event such as the one you are planning. Most of this will circle around the fact that while dōTERRA's products may have therapeutic benefits, they are not drugs. This comes from FDA regulation that state essential oils are Generally Recognized as Safe, however they only fall under nutritional or cosmetic classifications set forth by regulatory agencies. Because of this regulation it is actually against regulation, and therefore law, to suggest, state, or imply dōTERRA products have an effect like a drug or can be used in place of a drug. dōTERRA products are not intended to treat, cure or diagnose any disease or symptom. However, we do recognize that the use of essential oils may help to support normal health. These statements are all reflected and further explained by your contract with dōTERRA in section 11 (A-F).

Because of these regulations, it would be inappropriate and against this regulation to hold a meeting, event, or class which will teach treatments, or therapies with the intention to cure or diagnose or treat a specific disease. The FTC which works as a sort of back up the FDA's regulations was recently found to concentrate their efforts in discovering violations by concentrating on a set of serious diseases. Those are: Heart Disease, Cancer, Diabetes, HIV/Aids, Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, Asthma, Obesity, Fibromyalgia, ADD/ADHD, and Candida. We know the FTC is looking for violations regarding claims made about these diseases. For these reasons we do not allow claims about these top diseases. Holding a class that is specifically about dōTERRA products and one of these diseases is an unnecessary risk for yourself, the company, and potentially any person that may attend.

I am also concerned about liability. Stating in a classroom/presentation setting, or anyplace for that matter, that dōTERRA products have an effect on a prognosis is unwise. Making a statement of this kind is dangerous. If an individual who was present at your class changes their current treatment and therapies based on your statements, you, dōTERRA, and any other presenter present will be liable for any damages that may occur as a result. As diabetes is a serious life threatening disease, we are talking about damages/injuries resulting from a simple reaction to something as extreme as death. I am not implying that dōTERRA products may be the cause of such an extreme reaction, only that an individual following advice that counteracts their current healthcare provider's efforts will possibly be in serious danger.

If you do plan to continue forward with this class, I would suggest that you don't unless you have a physician present who will also be presenting. Also, keep in mind that having a class like this would only hold you liable if it were simply about essential oils, once you name a specific brand like dōTERRA, the company is now liable for any claim that you may make. Please be very careful as you continue. I would also suggest reading dōTERRA's policies with attention paid to section 11, section 12, section 19, and section 16. You may find our policies through the below link."

Ok, so I have seen many flyers out there stating the very thing they say not to. I am confused and frustrated because I really want to help ppl with diabetes! So I sent them a flyer of my event (attached) and they said this:

But, my agenda for the night includes the following:
Intro to Oils
Slim & Sassy Weight Loss Program
Offer them a chance to enroll in Doterra and Q's & A's
Neuropathy massage with AromaTouch, Balance and Frankincense

Should I take out the enrollment part?

And should I re-package (amber bottle from AromaTools) the oils?

Please let me know as soon as you can. Very thankful for your advice in this.

I wouldn't repackage the product. That is another issue all together. Mostly dōTERRA bottles are packaged in such a way to stop contamination, repackaging allows for the reintroduction of contamination. What you can do to help is talk about one issue, let's say a health issue and the issues with that health issue, and then quite separately talk about dōTERRA's product. Saying something like "dōTERRA product works great for ___THIS ISSUE___" would be a claim that potentially has liability attached to it. Talk about the issues, talk about dōTERRA products, but talking about them separately is the safest route to go if you do decide to hold the class.

What should I do? Cancel it? How do I talk about diabetes without talking about Doterra? Or vice versa. Help greatly appreciated asap - it's tonight!

Thank you so much (sorry so long but I wanted to give the whole story)
