One thing I would caution your friend. Please, please, please use a midwife with medical training. Many times lay midwives do not know what to do when problems arise during birth, and problems that may have been caught earlier are not, and outcomes are much worse than with a midwife with medical training. Utah has no licensing laws for midwives, so anyone, anyone can be a midwife. Please, get references. I'm a NICU nurse, and I see the devastation that can occur when babies are delivered, there are problems, and medical help is not readily available.
Understand I AM NOT in any way discounting midwives or home births. Just make sure you have someone that can handle problems with mom or baby should they arise.
