I have done it both ways. When I travel, I take all of my oils with me. Most often, I take them on the plane with me. I have a full set of oils, in a large, zipped case, which fits inside my 2008 Pre-Launch Convention messenger bag (Woot woot! LOVE that bag!!)
When going through Security checkpoints, I pull out the oil case, open it, telling the TSA folks that I am a holistic health care practitioner (which is the truth... I practice taking care of myself and others), and these are my natural medicines.
To date, the only "problems" I have had, have been kinda grumpy stares from folks behind me in line going through security, and the swabbing of the bottles (once) checking for drug or explosive residue, I guess.
My son, who used to work for TSA is the one who told me what to say and how to behave when going through their checkpoint. .. I can't guarantee that it would work for you, but it has for me.
