Re: [Everything doTERRA] Re: Doggie Diarrhea

My go-to for any tummy issues is straight canned pumpkin and slippery elm. But I agree you may want to do a vet visit and a fecal test to rule out any health issues!
Keep us posted!

My dog had it bad from a virus and I used Slippery Elm. It went away quickly.  All the other neighbourhood dogs went to the vet and paid a lot of money for meds!

I think a dog with diarrhea --especially if the dog is new to you, ought to go to the vet.  Just to rule out some more serious problems.  It could be caused by stress of a new environment, illness, new food, allergies, worms etc etc etc  A vet should be able to help you nail down what is going on.  We may be able to help a more effective remedy if we understand where the symptoms are coming from.

I've had success putting my dogs on probiotics.  Mercola sells a probiotic designed for animals where you can control the dosage based on size of the dog.

Pumpkin!  Pumpkin is amazing for doggie diarrhea.  Our rescue had a very upset digestive system for months after getting her.  We gave her pumpkin every day and her poos quickly firmed up.  We tried to ween her off periodically but it took several months, before she was having normal eliminations without regular pumpkin, but we did get there.  We also got some doggie probiotic (from the vet, 30 days was like $14) which she finished off completely (powdered in her food) and now just give her yogurt every day.  I personally would use the oils with a dog episodically since they are so small (that's just me, I'm sure people might argue otherwise).  But we found with these other natural alternatives we got a long lasting change.

Good luck!
