[Everything doTERRA] Re: Infants born to drugs or failure to thrive

Adele, I apologize for being late to your question, I'm kept quite busy with my children who were both have pre-natal cocaine exposure and had failure to thrive issues! We adopted them through foster-adoption. They are biological brothers and we first began working with them in 2006 when they were 12 months old/newborn and finalized the adoption in 2008. They just turned 7 and 6 years old last month. How I wish I had the oils as an option to help them back then!

I'm interested in exploring these questions as part of my focus as I move forward as a doTERRA IPC, as well as working with other families who have children with special needs in general. I'm moving s-l-o-w-l-y on this because as I mentioned already, meeting the needs of my kids is already a very big job. Honestly, I would eventually like to start an online forum for these specific issues but I'm not there yet. I hope she has a solid network of other people who do this kind of thing -- they are by far her most valuable resource. Please feel free to put her in touch with me directly if you like.

There's a wide range needs that your friend could be dealing with depending on the type of drug exposure. For example, cocaine exposure causes hyper-sensitivity but meth causes babies to be lethargic. Either way, though, I think the best way to think about it for this purpose is as a nervous system issue. If I could go back in time I would certainly be using frankincense on them everyday -- but that of course is is spendy for foster parents.
However, frankincense is included in Balance which is pretty affordable. I think that the basics she would want to have on hand is Balance to use throughout the day, and Vetiver to help relax muscles, reduce anxiety, and encourage sleep. Also, acid reflux seems to be very common in these cases, so Digestzen could be very helpful.

Just in case she doesn't have this information already, here's a link to special care facility in my area that has some good information on theraputic handling for infants with drug exposure. If you take a look through some of this, you may get ideas for what kinds of oils may help in a situation.

BTW, life is still full of challenges but I think it's fair to say my children are thriving. :)

Hi!  I am so thankful for this group.  I learn so much from each of you!  First, I wanted to post a success story.  A friend of mine had skin cancer and was getting chunks of her back removed to get rid of it.  I gave her some frankincense which she ingested, 2 drops under her tongue daily and applied topically to the surrounding skin.  When the Dr. took the second round of skin off her back, he said it was completely cancer free!

Now for the subject of this post.  Another friend is beginning the foster care program.  She will be getting many babies born with drug issues and failure to thrive.  She has asked me for any oils that can help and how.  Thanks in advance for your wisdom and experiences!
