[Everything doTERRA] I was asked a ? and need a professional answer

I am sure we have all heard or read people saying essential oils should never be taken internally.. Well Since doTERRA is a new company I was asked how do we know there is no long term effect of taking taking the oils internally .. Did they do enough research to prove that it is not going to cause any permanent damage from long time usage ? TIA
