[Everything doTERRA] Frankincense itching?

DH has been using Frankincense on his forehead for a few months to help with ak and other sun damage spots...with great success.  He is now complaining that it is causing awful itching that wakes him up at night.   

My thought is that

 It's more likely too much sugar or some other junk he's putting in his system.  What do you think?  should he maybe take a rest from it, and if so, how long.  This is about the only oil I've been able to get him to stick with.
