Last week my husband tore down a bunch of overgrowth around our neighbor's deck...and  got into some poison ivy and was stung twice.

As soon as he came back into the house he stripped down and immediately got into the shower and scrubbed down with Dawn dishwashing soap (it's the oils in the poison ivy that make it spread) while I put his close in the washer and laundered them in hot water using On Guard laundry soap.

His shower using oil-cutting Dawn contained the poison ivy to a four-inch patch on his left arm and a nickel-sized patch on his right arm.  When he was clean and dry we applied Purify to the stings and poison ivy sites. The next day we layered Melaleuca and Lavender on the poison ivy. It helped with the itching but the site wasn't looking any better. That's when I decided that perhaps my memory wasn't serving me so well so I looked up poison ivy on my protocol database.

The recommended protocol for poison ivy is to layer On Guard and Peppermint on the site so that's what we started doing immediately (I put some On Guard and Peppermint into two separate 4ml spray bottles) and the itching stopped immediately. He said that the peppermint felt tingly and cool (we didn't dilute either one for this).  He did this morning and night and during the day only when the itching came back. The poison ivy never blistered, didn't spread and in fact dried up. He has been doing this for the past eight days and could probably quit now but I'm letting him make that call. You may think that eight days seems like a long time but due to cardiac disease my husband's circulation is somewhat compromised so it takes his body longer to heal.

Just thought some of you may be interested in what worked for my husband since this is the season for poison ivy.
