[Everything doTERRA] Re: Ambien

AHHHH yes. Ambien. I worked in the medical field for 6 years in nursing and let me tell you, I was 100% behind Western medicine. I started when young and 6 years later can to my senses : ) I had trouble sleeping after working 12-14 hour shifts from 6pm - 6am and also being a full time student so my sleep suffered. Being on a very high dose of seizure medication the only thing I could take is Ambien ER (just an extended release as opposed to the regular) and it became my best friend. Regardless of the fact that I acted crazy if I did not go directly to bed after taking it. When I stopped it I went to half dose and only took it every couple of days and then went longer and longer and let me tell you it was not EASY and you must be ready to be all sorts of irritable and short tempered and NO sleep. Eventually I got off completely and only use doTERRA lavender on my back each night. I can rotate out with veviter and serenity when I am out of lavender. My husband and I agreed to no TV in the bedroom and only have one in the family room and it really helps. Try and do something relaxing you only do at bedtime to signal you brain it is calm down time. Again, this is only what worked for me and is just my story. Prescription drugs are serious with withdraws in some cases and you have to do what is best for you. Best of luck!

I have been an avid doTerra EO user for the past few years. I began suffering with severe neck pain, muscle spasms, in upper shoulder back area, migraines 4 or 5 days and nights/ week , and severe insomnia. I had C Spine facet blocks with no help. Mild Degenerative Disc disease. I have done physical therapy, occupational therapy, stretching exercises, etc. I began going to a Pain management clinic about 4 months ago for help in dealing with the day to day pain. ( I am only 50). I felt as though I was exhausting all measures with the oils, and with very little results, especially with the insomnia and neck pain. The Dr. prescribed Ambien 10 mg. 1 each night, and Robaxin ( muscle relaxer)  750 mg. 2 x's daily. I have been experiencing severe memory loss, aggressiveness, and yes, MUCH better sleep. Well, to my shock and horror, I just saw 2 separate documentaries on Ambien. They were both alarming ! For women, ( because the Ambien is metabolized much slower ) the maximum dosage is 5 mg. and recommended that 2.5 mg is suggested to begin with to see the results of the help with Insomnia before the 5 mg [maximum  dosage] is prescribed... AND, it ( Ambien ) is only to be used for about 3 weeks maximum. I have been prescribed 10 mg. for going on 4 months now ! Each time I went back to the Dr. I reported to them that I was having the side effects and that I did not feel like this was normal, and that I knew that Ambien is " habit forming" . I was told, Well, that is true, but which is worse ... no sleep or having to depend on Ambien from now on in order to sleep...?  Now, after seeing the documentaries, I want to stop taking the Ambien totally, but to no avail I am considered "addicted", and should not just stop taking the medication because of the severe  withdrawal effects... I am devastated , and embarrassed..  Has anyone had to detox from Ambien, and if so, how can doTerra EO be of help.? Very helpless, and have definitely decided that for myself, I will no longer trust that the health care of today's society ( by in large) is really concerned about the patient and the well being of that person, rather, the month to month prescriptions that are written to thousands of people daily that just keep them coming back for more ( because of the dependency that is induced) . And furthermore the high cost associated with these controlled substances causes much of the population affected by this, to exhaust all measures to obtain such drugs. Sad, sad, sad... This particular Physician even gave me an extra muscle relaxer prescription that was never even discussed with me that I had no idea was on the prescription form until I got to the Pharmacy and realized that it was there.. I am not lambasting ALL physicians by any means, however, I do feel that it is not the responsibility of the patient to know the FDA regulations of a drug as well as the long term effects. If I need a Physician in the future, I will definitely do a better job of finding out all that I can about a medication, before I just swallow a pill..and I will pray that doTerra EO will be sufficient for all of my health needs as well as those of my family and friends.. Any suggestions or help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
