In my Aromatherpy cert we were all taught that no one can be allergic to an essential oil. They can however have a psychosomatic reaction. Basicly something unplesnt could of happened to them in their past while there was the smell of peppermint present and the feeling they experienced then are brought back up when they smell it again.
The other thing is some people are just rude and make it up. They have done lots of studies showing that people sysc themselves out thinking a smell is bad for them. Our olfactory system is attached to our primitive brain so people can decide something they are unfilmiluar with is bad and from then on to them it is.
I've heard complaints team members have had from people who tried to get them in trouble for wearing essential oil's for a since of power too. Also heard of one co worker of this kind who had a better attitude when a cottonball with Elivation was taped under her desk.
So it could be that she does not like the emotions that peppermint is bringing up for her or she smelt it at a time she was hurt, or she could just be obnoxious. If the oils don't always effect her it may be the latter. People who feel powerless often try to exert power over their environment.
Personally Im offended my the smelly synthetic junk people put in their hair and on their body. But I have no bad reaction to it just smells repugnant. I don't complain because they walk around choosing to stink.
Personally I stand my ground. I don't tell them they stink and I have a accute since of smell. I will not stop using natural products. So you know all natural products have a smell.
