If anything like that ever happens again, drop a good organic oil such as coconut, grape seed, olive or equivalent into the ear to diffuse the oil. It was painful but I don't think you damaged anything. I have had others do this, we were able to diffuse it but there have been instances where we did not get to it in time, there have been no residual effects from it that we could see.
