I doubt that this is the case but do check to make certain that nothing in the car seat itself is causing the baby discomfort or pain. I say this only because, as a baby, my nephew was the same way and my sister, to her horror, finally discovered that there was a piece of plastic under the seat cover that rubbed his little back...in the same place, over and over. Needless to say, my sister felt horrible when she discovered it.
