For me, when I am helping others deal with emotional issues I like to do a smell test. My 11 year old son LOVES doing it. We sit together with ALL my oils & he gets to control the situation. He picks his favorite music, we sit where he wants to sit, and one bottle at a time he picks the oils he wants to smell. Eventually he finds one that makes him happy. When he does we fill his own bottle with that.I use a few (5-10) drops of the oil & lots of carrier oil. Then he gets to put the oil on whenever & however. The way he picked the oil contributed to making it an uplifting relaxer. It's a no-stress situation! Often he just smells it, but a bad day at school might have him putting it on to the point that I smell it when he returns. That is my signal to talk with him. We jump on the trampoline or go for a walk. The exercise helps! Letting him talk & me listening without "fixing" helps.
Try it with your niece, but like was already said you need to relax too. She will feed off your anxiety.
