When plugging in a diffuser you are simply activating the diffuser itself. Most of the diffusers have water added and then a few drops of the oil. The diffuser ionizes the water sending a mist into the air with the oil, it is not hot.
When heating water and putting oils in creates an aromatic experience that helps open up airways and also helps to release mucus. Again this is very helpful for the sinus and bronchial airways.
When carrying oils with you and leaving them in your car in the middle of the summer, where they actually cook and become less than what they were. These bottles are usually in a small package or in a case that you carry your oils in. They can almost reach boiling point when left for an extended time ( in Nevada, Arizona, Utah and a few other states that have extreme heat). For instance the full day under intense heat will destroy most of the properties. Setting a few oil in your window in full daylight will also not be a good thing.
However if you get your box of oils dropped in your mailbox and they sit there for a few hours protected with wrapping and sealed in the box you will be fine.
It is mostly a precaution when telling you to keep oils out of direct sunlight or extreme heat, it would be an longer than normal time before it starts to break down the oils.
Just use caution.

I have read many times that heat will destroy or lessen the benefits of essential oils and yet I have read to put the oils in tea and to breathe in steam from a bowl with oils in it. My question is about diffusers. There are diffusers that you plug into an electrical outlet and also the cigarette lighter. Will there be any therpeutic benefits from using these? Thanks, Sz
