I do understand that there are very different opinions as to how to treat infection connected with teeth that have had root canals. I just wonder if there is a way to effectively clean up an infection without having to pull the whole root canal and what's left of the tooth out and replace it with a bridge or implant. I'd like to take the least radical treatment that is necessary. It makes it tricky when there are strong opinions on both sides. For now, I am doing my best with diet, oil pulling and mouth-rinses, all with essential oils added. It is doing somewhat better. I could't get in to see the dentist I want for a month. Since it seems to be doing better, I feel that I'm okay waiting. This dentist does have a certain way of taking x rays and tests that shows what is going on more than the usual dental xrays that can miss alot of what is going on. These root canals were done long ago following an accident while riding a bus (in a foreign country) about 35 years ago. I actually didn't go to an American dentist (who did the root canals) until about 2 years following the accident. I did have some work done 2 years ago for infection in the roots of these same teeth.

He did say most dentists who are in the know do not do root canals. Plus he said it is a sham that the dental industry still recognize root canals as a viable option .Not to be rude but I feel Strongly against root canals.
Sent from my iPhoneThanks for qualifying that.Pat--On Wed, Jan 28, 2015 at 4:45 PM, patq <patquaglia@gmail.com> wrote:I am a dental hygienist who has been practicing for over 40 years. I can assure you oral surgeons do not advise that all teeth with root canals be removed. In my experience less than 5% of teeth that have been treated with a root canal need to be taken out due to reinfection. Most of them have a fracture in one of the roots that could not be seen on an xray. Root canals are safe and the best way to save a tooth that is infected.--

Sent from my iPhoneJan,YES - you should have it checked. Infection in the mouth is not something to take lightly, as it's very close to the brain, and can be life threatening.I recommend that you seek the opinion of a medical professional to determine if it is infection. Our doctors are happy to write the prescription with instructions for taking it IF we cannot eliminate the symptoms naturally in (fill in the blank) days. We often don't fill the prescription, but it is useful to have a back up plan in case symptoms escalate over a weekend. It is also helpful to talk through other symptoms that may be indicating a different cause for the pain, in case the natural protocol you're using needs to be modified for a different root cause.--On Mon, Jan 26, 2015 at 12:21 PM, Jan <rsso...@msn.com> wrote:I have a tooth that had a root canal years ago. It seems to have recently had some infection stirred up from dormant bacteria. (that's my best guess, anyway. It has done this before). I've been putting clove directly on the skin behind the tooth where the pain is at where the roots would have been. It feels very bumpy and sore on the surface now. (is that from the clove?) I've been oil pulling with oregano, melaleuka, on guard and cinnamon once a day.--What would you suggest to clear up any infection that was stirred up? It has been quite painful and sometimes radiates through the sinus cavity. Wondering if I need to have it checked by a holistic dentist. Thanks for any suggestions!
