[Everything doTERRA] Re: Spikenard?

Spikenard nowadays usually refers to a flowering plant (Nardostachys jatamansi) in the Valerian family, that grows in the mountains of Asia. An essential oil can be distilled from spikenard, but it's not a blend of oils. There are a number of other plants  that have been historically referred to as spikenard, false spikenard, or "nard", including one species of Lavender, Lavender stoechas.

Since it's in the valerian family, it's good for stress, anxiety and insomnia. It also benefits the skin and is good for dermatitis and psoriasis. Kurt Schaubelt says it will anchor a "hypervigilant immune system" and so is good for autoimmune conditions.

I once got some to try and the main thing I noticed was its very strong scent. Nard is mentioned in the Bible's Song of Songs as one of a number of fragrant plants used as perfume. Perhaps it works well when blended with other fragrant oils. By itself, I'd use it on my feet, but unless I was desperate (and a hermit) it's not something I could live with on my face LOL!
