I haven't tried Sandalwood, but I have used FCO with Lavender, worked like a charm! I have very fair skin, freckles, burn very easily, and used the FCO and Lavender when we went to Zion's National Park last year. My skin did turn pink, but it wasn't a sunburn and never hurt like a sunburn.
