You can try using chalk (I know sounds strange) My daughter puts in the younger kids hair then uses a flat iron to keep it and it holds for a couple of weeks. Also you can use koolaid not sure how it works but lots of kids are doing that as well.

chemically opened and the natural dark brown to black pigment removed
